In Lahore, Sanam Javaid, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who is currently in jail, plans to run in the upcoming elections against Maryam Nawaz, the Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Sanam, along with other PTI members, is in custody due to her involvement in the May 9 riots that occurred after the arrest of then PTI chairman Imran Khan on corruption charges.
Sanam faces charges related to the attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore and the burning of police vehicles in the Cantonment area during the protests earlier this year. Despite being in jail, her father confirmed that she will submit nomination papers for Lahore's PP-150 constituency in the general elections scheduled for February 8 next year. He mentioned that Sanam will run on the PTI's ticket and also submit papers for the women's reserved seat.
The father stated that they are collecting the necessary documents to file Sanam Javaid's nomination papers. Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N leader, has not yet disclosed the constituency from which she will be contesting in the elections.
