Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president for Karachi, Khurram Sher Zaman, declared that his party's planned public rally on Sunday would not take place as planned. This decision was made after the caretaker administration of Sindh refused to grant permission for the event.
In a statement, Zaman expressed grave concerns about the impartiality of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker administration of Sindh. He said that his party is not being given a fair chance to compete in the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.
The impartiality of caretaker governments and the ECP, both at the federal and provincial levels, in ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process is now questionable, he said. The ongoing election process has taken on a farcical nature, attributed to the clear bias displayed by the ECP and caretakers.
Zaman declared that rigged elections or any other kind of political meddling will not be accepted by the people of Pakistan. The people are reassured by the PTI's Karachi chapter that the party is unwavering in its dedication to democratic principles. As soon as authorization is received, the party will handle these issues and announce a new rally date.
Zaman raised concern over what he described as the saddening and unpleasant people's experience of the Sindh administration's evident prejudice against the PTI's election campaign. "The PTI is under unnecessary scrutiny, while other political parties, like the MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami, appear to have an open field in Karachi."
Panic ensued when PTI employees' homes were raided late yesterday night. Zaman emphasized that there would be no reward from pursuing a political grudge against the PTI.
