NAB to grill Imran in £190 million settlement case in jail

In the £190 million settlement case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was given permission on Friday to question former prime minister Imran Khan within Adiala jail for a period of four days.

Another flurry of activity occurred at the Adiala jail when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court, and Attorney Sardar Latif Khosa, representing Bushra Bibi, convened for in-prison proceedings in the £190 million pound case against the former premier and his wife.

The NAB's investigative officer informed the accountability court during today's hearing that the chairman had not issued arrest warrants against Bushra Bibi, thus the court also granted her temporary release in the matter until November 21.

Without holding any hearings, the special court postponed until November 21 the hearing of the Cipher case against Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI and a former premier.

In the case of cypher leakage filed under the Official Secrets Act, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi are on trial before Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.

The Islamabad High Court on Thursday extended the stay order against the PTI Chairman's jail trial in the cypher case, therefore the court proceedings for the case were postponed until Friday.

The trial court's proceedings were delayed by the court on Tuesday in order to gather details regarding the "circumstances" that led to the trial being held at the high-security Adiala Jail.

Salman Akram Raja, the attorney for Imran Khan, requested that the stay order be extended until Monday, November 20, and the court granted his request during the hearing on Thursday.

Judge Miangul Hassan stated that the appeal would be heard on Monday at 11:00 a.m., and the case will be resolved at that time.

Mansoor Awan, the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), raised objections to Imran Khan's intra-court appeal against his jail trial in the US cypher case being allowed to be heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, the sisters of Chairman PTI, together with his wife, were present at the hearing. The court at Adiala jail was also attended by Imran's co-accused, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister's wife Mehreen Qureshi, and daughter Mehrabano Qureshi.

Speaking to the media outside the jail, FIA Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbasi Naqvi disclosed that the court's ruling was based on the directive from the IHC.
