MQM-P rejects PML-N’s demand for adjustment on Karachi’s traditional seats

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has demanded adjustments to traditional seats in Karachi; however, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has rejected this demand.

MQM-P leaders have reportedly excused themselves from negotiating customary seats with the PML-N in Karachi. MQM-P did, however, demonstrate consensus over seat adjustments in a few Lyari, Keamari, and Malir constituencies.

Both parties agreed to meet for adjustment at a Malir rural seat. MQM-P insisted on announcing its candidates for both of Hyderabad's National Assembly (NA) seats, while Mustafa Kamal would represent the party in the Baldia Town seat.

Furthermore, there hasn't been any agreement made thus far regarding the several seats in Tando Allahyar, Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Mirpur Khas.

But when it came to carrying on with the consultations in front of the general elections, both parties appeared at ease.

The traditional seats in Karachi's Korangi, Central, East, and West districts have been categorically rejected by the MQM-P. The political party pledged to back the PML-N candidate for the East district of Karachi in one provincial assembly seat.

However, PML-N asked MQM-P to back its candidates in those constituencies in which candidates received between 20,000 and 25,000 votes in the 2013 and 2018 elections.

In Karachi and Hyderabad, the PML-N insisted on fielding candidates for a few provincial assembly seats. But the ultimate choice hasn't been made yet.

The leaders of the MQM-P and PML-N would present suggestions to their respective top leaders. Prior to Nawaz Sharif's visitation to Sindh, the parties decided to come to a consensus

According to sources, both parties have also considered holding talks for seat adjustments with the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).

Asif Ali Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), on the other hand, established two distinct committees to have discussions with political figures prior to the general elections.

The co-chairman of the PPP has established committees in Sindh and Balochistan to facilitate communication with legislators from these two provinces.
