November 9, 1877, saw the birth of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the philosopher-poet dubbed the Poet of the East, in Sialkot.
With his international poetry and political savvy, he roused the Muslims of the Subcontinent, proposing the notion of Pakistan’s founding in his famous speech at Allahabad in 1930.
The speech by Allama Iqbal provided Muslims on the Sub-Continent with a distinct identity and clear orientation towards the establishment of Pakistan.
In honor of Allama Iqbal Day, Radio Pakistan and TV stations are airing special programs that showcase the poet and thinker’s works.
The investiture ceremony for a new guard at the Mausoleum of Iqbal this morning in Lahore was a small but significant event.
The task of protecting the tomb was taken over by a Pakistan Navy detachment that was expertly disguised.
